Swan Hill District Health

Swan Hill District Health stands as a cornerstone of comprehensive healthcare in rural Victoria, boasting a 143-bed facility fully integrated to serve a wide array of health needs.

Our dedicated team of approximately 750 professionals delivers unparalleled care to an estimated catchment of 40,000 individuals within a 100 km radius, including the serene settings along the Murray River, 344km northwest of Melbourne.

Since welcoming our first patient on 22 September, 1860, we have proudly evolved to surpass the capabilities of many larger state hospitals. Reflecting our expansive range of healthcare offerings, we transitioned from Swan Hill District Hospital to Swan Hill District Health in 2008, a change that more accurately encompasses the full spectrum of our services.

Our comprehensive care model spans from birth through to palliative care, ensuring every phase of life is supported under one roof. We pride ourselves on offering a wide range of generalist and specialist services, making sophisticated healthcare accessible in a single, convenient location.

In addition to serving our community’s health needs, Swan Hill District Health is a beacon of medical education and innovation, affiliated with Charles Sturt University’s Mallee Clinical School and Monash University. As a teaching hospital, we are deeply involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, facilitated through our participation in the Victorian Rural Generalist Program. We host postgraduate training across all medical specialties, supplemented by a variety of visiting specialty services, thus fostering the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Our commitment to education, combined with our comprehensive service offering, underscores Swan Hill District Health’s role not just as a healthcare provider, but as a vital contributor to medical excellence and community well-being in rural Victoria
