Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Connecting the Docs unique?

We are a combination of acute and community health services that have developed this program in order to offer a comprehensive, flexible and rewarding regional career opportunity that encompasses multiple sites, with multiple speciality streams, working together to support your career pathway and the health of our region.

We understand that to progress with a fulfilling career, multiple factors impact progress. As such we will support you with career pathways with a case management model that has been developed to ensure you are connected to the right people (professionally and personally) and organisations as you progress through your pathway.

Is Connecting the Docs a recruitment agency?

It is not. It is a program developed and run in partnership with multiple health and community services in the region, to directly collaborate with prospective doctors, taking out the middle man, which provides health services with the ability to offer more flexible and tailored career opportunities.

Is it just for junior doctors?

No, this program is for any doctors interested in pursuing a short- or long-term career pathway in the Loddon Mallee. However, priority will be given to meeting the needs and capability of our region, to support supervision as required. Unfortunately, there are some levels of doctors that we do not have the capacity to train. However we are happy to make this assessment upon application and open to offering short-term roles when, and if, we can provide the appropriate level of training.

Can Connecting the Docs help me relocate to the region?

Yes, our program is designed to support your CONNECTION to the region. We can connect you to access government and non-government financial support programs for regional doctors.

What relocation resources can be provided?

In addition to helping you access government and non-government financial support programs, which may cover relocation costs, we can also connect you with local community groups and essential organisations such as schools, universities and religious institutions.

What about my family or partner?

Connection for your family or partner is a priority for our program, as we acknowledge the importance of their connection to our region as well.

While we do not have the capacity to financially support relocation for family or partners, we do offer the same case management for support as they find their feet. We can support with assistance in connections to appropriate employment opportunities, access to education and schools, and connection to community.

Is this also for more seasoned medical practitioners who are looking for a tree change?

Absolutely, we welcome the more seasoned medical practitioners to our region. Whether on a long- or short-term basis. We appreciate our seasoned medical practitioners for not only the knowledge they can provide to our more junior doctors, but also for their breadth of experience. In return, we aim to ensure that Connecting the Docs provides our tree-changers with the support they may require.

Does this cater for part-time as well as full-time roles?

Yes, the purpose of the program is to work with you to tailor a career pathway that meets both yours and the services needs. The program is collectively aiming to work towards a single employer model and for the right candidates, your case manager will work closely with the services and you to negotiate the right fit.

Do I have to interview at multiple sites?

No, we have developed this program to reduce and simplify the process. We recruit as a team, providing you with an opportunity to meet with representatives from all the sites; and us an opportunity to meet you. If you have a particular specialty you are looking to pursue, we will tailor the recruitment process to this stream.
