Connecting the Docs respects the right of doctors to choose their Hospitalist / Non-vocational pathway and acknowledges the contribution and the unique nature that these roles play in Australian hospitals.

Prevocational training doctors have provisional or general medical registration and are typically in the early postgraduate years following medical school graduation. They are not trainees in a specialist medical training program, but intend to become trainees to obtain specialist registration.

These medical practitioners have not yet determined a personal final career objective. 

Program Pathways

Career Hospitalists and Non-Vocational Doctors undertaking the Hospital Medical Officer program (HMO) years 5-16, can choose from six, 12 or 18-month rotations within our hospitals across multiple regional locations.

Our program supports continued growth and career advancement, with a wide range of pathways tailored to meet the diverse needs of our communities and healthcare services. 

Connecting the Docs supports Hospitalists and Non-Vocational Doctors to transition positively into our regional communities, supporting quality of life and livability, including relocation information, sourcing initial accommodation, family support for partners and children, connections to key organisations, peers, and more.

We work with you to address your unique career and lifestyle needs and aspirations.

Emergency Services (Medicine)
Manages patients with life-threatening conditions requiring comprehensive organ support and invasive monitoring techniques.
Echuca, Mildura, Swan Hill
General Medicine
Focuses on diagnosing and managing complex health conditions in adults, promoting health maintenance and disease prevention.
All locations
General Surgery
Involves the operative, perioperative, and non-operative management of patients with a broad spectrum of diseases, including those which may require elective or emergency surgery.
Echuca, Mildura, Swan Hill
Obstetrics and Gynaecology
Specialises in women’s reproductive health, including pregnancy, childbirth, and gynaecological disorders.

HDU/Anaesthetics
Provides specialised care and monitoring for patients needing more attention than a general ward but less than ICU, often after major surgery or during complex treatments.

Hospital in the Home (HITH)
Delivers hospital-level treatment in the patient’s home, offering an alternative to inpatient care for eligible patients, focusing on comfort and convenience.

Dedicated to the health, well-being, and medical care of infants, children, and adolescents from birth up to the age of 18.

Psychiatry
Engages in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental, emotional, and behavioural disorders, employing therapeutic, pharmacologic, and interventional methods.

Rehabilitation
Focuses on restoring patient health and function after illness or injury, using therapies and interventions tailored to individual needs and recovery goals.

Rural Generalist
Delivers a broad scope of medical care in rural settings, combining general practice with emergency medicine, and in some cases, additional skills in obstetrics or anaesthetics.
