Northern district community health
The NDCH medical clinic is a purpose-built GP clinic with 10 consulting rooms and three treatment rooms. General Practitioner’s are supported by a team of practice nurses, nurse practitioners, medical receptionists and a practice coordinator. The clinic has been a teaching practice for many years with Registrar training and Monash medical students.
A key component of Victoria’s health system is the provision of integrated medical, social and community services in local communities. People are able to access the care they need close to home through locally run Community Health Services.
Community Health Services (CHSs) are publicly funded organisations that provide an integrated model of local, primary health care to their communities. The CHS sector consists of not-for-profit registered services and community health services operating within larger public health services and small rural health services. There are 100 CHSs operating from approximately 250 sites across Victoria.
Victoria’s devolved governance model provides CHSs with an authorising environment that allows for the delivery of services that are relevant to local needs. Accountability to the community and a not-for-profit status ensures that each CHS and their programs are flexible and responsive to the health needs of the local population. The result is an efficient and coordinated service that provides accessible and affordable health and social services to all, regardless of their income or the complexity of their presenting condition.

Kerang District Health
Kerang District Health (KDH) is a 50 bed rural health service and one of two small rural health services in the Gannawarra Shire. KDH provides an integrated range of acute, residential aged care and community services to a population of 10,549 people in the Gannawarra Shire.
The health service owns and operates one of the two medical clinics in Kerang with General Practitioner’s (GP) currently consulting at the Kerang Medical Clinic (KMC) in Patchell Plaza, Victoria Street, Kerang. Kerang Medical Clinic is fully accredited ass training sites with both ACRRM and RACGP; and is fully compliant with AGPAL accreditation. The medical clinic is well staffed with administrative and nursing staff to make the GP’s role more seamless. The clinic and also has weekly skin clinics for excisions and skin biopsy’s. Onsite GP supervision is available.
The health service delivers the following acute health services: general medicine; urgent care centre; transition care program and palliative care. KDH has one operating theatre and offers pre-admission clinic and elective surgery for general surgery, gynaecology, urology and dental surgery. KDH also has day oncology services under the auspice of Bendigo Health and provide services Tuesday – Thursday including infusion therapies.
Glenarm is a 30 bed residential aged care service under the Public Sector Residential Care Service (PSRACS) and is situated in the main hospital building. KDH community services include the district nursing service who also provide HITH and post-acute care.
Over in the WD Thomas Centre there are planned activity groups both centre based and mobile; the Allied Health team provide adult exercise groups, hydrotherapy classes and physiotherapy outpatient clinics. The Men’s Shed and Rita Hall Opportunity Shop are offsite but form an integral part of KDH services.
The KDH urgent care centre sees approximately 2,400 presentations per year. KDH has highly skilled nurse practitioners, RIPRN and rural urgent care trained nurses who complement our skilled GP visiting medical officers to provide excellent care.
KDH use telehealth services including but not limited to GeriConnect, Aged Care Assessment Service (ACAS), Victorian Virtual Emergency Department (VVED), Adult Retrieval Services (ARV), Paediatric Infant Perinatal Emergency Retrieval (PIPER), Bendigo Health ED, Stroke Network, and a range of other speciality services.
The Austin Pathology Collection Centre and Bendigo Radiology Imaging Services are provided to the community located at the health service on a Monday to Friday basis. Bendigo Radiology offer x-rays and ultrasound services on new state of the art equipment.
KDH is fortunate to have visiting specialists such as Oncology, Gynaecology, General Surgery, Urology, Infant Hearing, Palliative Care, Central Victorian Cardiology, Bendigo providing services closer to home for our community members.

Since welcoming our first patient on 22 September, 1860, we have proudly evolved to surpass the capabilities of many larger state hospitals.
