Intern
PostGraduate Year 1 (PGY1)
Internship is a formal supervised training pathway for newly graduated doctors undertaking their first year of supervised clinical practice in a hospital setting. They rotate through core specialties (eg., medicine, surgery, emergency) to develop foundational skills.
To be eligible for Intern roles you must have the following:
General registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
Demonstrated recent clinical experience
Evidence of clinical readiness
Strong referees, CV and interview performance
Applications via the Postgraduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMCV)

INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL GRADUATES AS EARLY CAREER DOCTORS
Junior Medical Officers (JMO), non-accredited Hospital Medical Officer (HMO), Resident Medical Officer (RMO) and Service Medical Officer (SMO) –are supervised service roles that provide structured supervision and clinical experience for IMGS working towards general registration, internship equivalence recognition and eligibility for standard HMO PGY2+ roles.
To be eligible for Junior Medical Officer roles you must have the following:
AMC 1 (CAT MQE)
Limited Registration (AHPRA)
Level 1 Supervision
Recency of practice requirements and readiness to work safely under supervision
Internship is a formal supervised training pathway for newly graduated doctors undertaking their first year of supervised clinical practice in a hospital setting or an International Medical Graduate (IMG) eligible for Provisional Registration. They rotate through core specialties (eg., medicine, surgery, emergency) to develop foundational skills before progressing on their pathway to achieving General Registration.

A second-year post-graduate doctor who has completed internship and is undertaking further broad-based or early specialist training rotations to build clinical experience and prepare for entry into a chosen specialist training pathway.
To be eligible for Senior Doctor roles you must have the following:
Completed an Internship (PGY1)
Recent relevant clinical experience
General registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
Strong referees, CV, and interview performance

/RESIDENT MEDICAL OFFICER
A second-year post-graduate doctor who has completed internship and is undertaking further broad-based or early specialist training rotations to build clinical experience and prepare for entry into a chosen specialist training pathway.
Completed internship (PGY1) or HMO/RMO/JMO/SMO Supervised Practice
Demonstrated ability to work safely at PGY2 level (through prior supervised roles)
Recent relevant clinical experience, preferably comparable to the Australian system
General registration (AHPRA) preferred
AMC 1 & AMC 2 (AMC certificate) or Competent Authority Pathway (e.g. UK, Ireland, NZ)
Strong referees, CV, and interview performance
Familiarity with Australian clinical practice systems and communication standard
