Non-Vocational Registered (VR) Doctors

Non-specialist International Medical Graduates (IMGs) applying for registration in Australia via the Standard Pathway through the Medical Board of Australia (MBA) must sit a Pre-employment Structured Clinical Interview (PESCI). The PESCI test measures skills, knowledge and relevant experience to gauge ability to practice safely and effectively in Australia and is tailored to the applicant and the position for which they are seeking registration.

To be eligible for Non Vocationally Registered (VR) Doctors roles you must have the following:
Limited or provisional registration (AHPRA)
AMC 1
Offered for IMGs for Level 1 to 4 supervision requirements
Have an offer of employment in an Australian General Practice setting
Successful PESCI candidates will need to complete 12+ months of supervised practice in an Australian General Practice setting and complete the Pre-Fellowship Program before entering General Practice training programs.

General Practitioner Registrars (GP Registrars)
PostGraduate Year 3
General Practitioner Registrars are qualified doctors undertaking accredited general practice training through a recognised college (e.g. RACGP or ACCRM) to become a qualified GP. They work in supervised community settings, progressively gaining independence while completing assessments and exams towards fellowship.
To be eligible for General Practitioner Registrar roles you must have the following:
General registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
At least PGY2+ clinical experience (including hospital rotations)
Acceptance into a recognised GP training program (RACGP, ACCRM or RVTS) through a competitive application process
Demonstrated clinical competence, communication skills and readiness for community based-practice
Meeting selection requirements of college/training provider (e.g. exams, recency of practice, placement eligibility)

ACRRM Independent Pathway (IP) is a self-funded option that is accredited by the Australian Medical Council and leads to Fellowship of ACRRM (FACRRM)

Modified Monash Model (MMM) 2-7 location training site
Accredited training site for ACRRM registrars
Onsite accredited supervisor
Contract of employment for at least 6 months
Working min 14.5hrs or 2 days per week
RACGP Fellowship Support Program (FSP)
A self-funded education and training program to support doctors on their journey to Fellowship with RACGP (FRACGP).
General, provisional or limited registration (AHPRA) Level 3 or 4 supervision. Level 3 supervision applicants assessed on a case-by-case basis
Modified Monash Model (MMM) 2-7 location training site
Accredited training site for AGPT or FSP registrars
Onsite accredited supervisor
Contract of employment for at least 6 months
Working min 14.5hrs or 2 days per week
At least one exam semester remaining if you have already sat RACGP fellowship exams

Rural Generalist Registrar (RG Pathway)
PostGraduate Year 3
Rural Generalist Registrars are qualified doctors undertaking a vocational training pathway that prepares doctors for careers as Rural Generalists, delivering comprehensive primary care, hospital care, emergency care and at least one advanced skill in regional, rural and remote communities. The pathway is delivered through the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM), the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), state Rural Generalist Pathways, and the National Rural Generalist Pathway.
ACRRM Rural Generalist Training Scheme (RGTS)
ACRRM RGTS is a structured vocational training pathway scheme to support doctors to achieve Fellowship of ACRRM (FACRRM)-RG while developing broad clinical capabilities required to meet the healthcare needs of rural communities.
RACGP Rural Generalist Pathway
RACGP Rural Generalist Pathway is a vocational training program that enables doctors to become General Practitioners with additional skills to provide comprehensive healthcare in rural and remote communities.
Advanced Skills Training (AST) for Rural Generalist (RG) and Advanced Rural Skills Training (ARST) for General Practitioners (GPs)
Advanced Skills Training is an additional period, typically 12 months equivalent full-time of specialist-focused training undertaken by Rural Generalist and GP Registrars to develop advanced clinical expertise and specialist-level skills that are needed by rural, regional and remote communities.
