Pathway requirements for physicians applying to practice in Australia

Registration Pathway Requirements

  1. Candidate to check if medical school and degree are listed on AMC website.
  2. Candidate to submit medical degree to ECFMG for EPIC verification and issued with an EPIC ID number.
  3. Candidate to create an AMC account, and establish AMC portfolio to be issued with an AMC candidate number.
  4. After the application is assessed as complete, the candidate is eligible to proceed with AMC assessments.
  5. Candidate to purchase 12 months MCQ authorisation.
  6. Candidate to schedule MCQ examination at preferred Pearson VUE venue.
  7. After passing the MCQ examination, candidate can proceed with a Clinical Examination, or Workplace Based Assessment (WBA).
  8. Candidate must be granted with Limited Registration by the Medical Board of Australia (MBA) to apply and accept an approved clinical position at an accredited program provider.
  9. Candidate to apply for a Clinical Examination position – either online or in-person format – once scheduling becomes available.
  10. Candidate awarded with AMC certificate after passing the Clinical Examination or Workplace Based Assessment (WBA). 
  11. Candidate eligible to apply for general medical registration, with the Medical Board of Australia (MBA).
